The Mid Semester Slump

Around this time, it is normal to feel lost and unmotivated, especially after hearing the words "final exam" repeatedly stated by your professors. Here are some tips to get over the mid semester slump:

  • Switch Up Your Routine! Whether it is finding a new study buddy or changing your daily routines and habits. If you usually study alone, walk up to someone new, introduce yourself, and plan a study session during one of these weekends. If you usually go to the gym after class, go to the gym in the morning. Fill your life with new excitement through other routines and new people.
  • Get Reorganized! First, figure out what you have and maybe then will you find out that you're not missing as much as you thought. You could trade notes with someone in your class that takes notes on their laptops or takes good in-class notes but you only take good at-home reading notes.
  • Enroll in a clinic! It is never to late to attend a pro bono clinic and getting out of your comfort zone to talk to some clients before that summer internship starts! This way, you'll have some experience in a formal legal setting with clients.
  • And finally, Keep Your Eyes On the Prize! There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Once you're done with finals you'll have a whole summer vacation to look forward to. The short term sacrifices you make right now will lead to long-term gains in the form of great final exam grades. You only have to put in a lot of hard work now, you'll have plenty of time to rest during summer break!

1L Hack: Midterms 2

It's Midterm Exam Time again!! Here are some life hacks to get your through the next few exams:

  • Pay attention to your body clock. Are you sharpest in the morning or at the evening? Schedule your most difficult materials when you are mentally at your best, and schedule the easier ones when you are mentally less efficient.
  • Study at the same time, same place. Study at the same time and at the same place that you have devoted to studying only. This helps you to associate the time and place with studying and concentrating. You will find that you get into a habit of studying as soon as you sit down.
  • Don't cram at the last minute. Let your brain relax and refresh. Refresh before the test, do a few easy problems to get things moving again.
  • Move on. Don't waste too much time on one question. If you're unsure, bubble in your best guess and hope you'll have time to come back to it later.

Now, go and attack those papers and midterm exams!!

Spotlight on Columbus

Columbus named by New York Times as one of the 52 places to visit in 2019

You heard it!  Yes, that’s right, OUR city was named as one of the top 52 places to visit in 2019!

From our diverse food scene, to a city-wide revitalization of multiple neighborhoods, Columbus is on the upswing!

For the more information, read the following:

Speaking of New and Improved, this fall, the National Veterans Museum opened, adding another milestone to Columbus.  The Museum is the only place in America dedicated to telling the stories of veterans across all branches of military service…even being named by Architectural Digest as one of the most important buildings to be completed this year.

Spotlight on Intern and Externships

It's never too late, but the earlier the better, to be thinking about what you'll be doing this summer. Whether it is a paid internship or a externship for credit, Capital can help you find what may fit you.
Here are a few resources that I use when searching for intern and externships:
  • Symplicity. I love this website because not only are their internships within Columbus for students in all levels of law school but there are also internships in other cities and states that are posted here. There are after-graduation job prospects and even some scholarship offers that are attached to summer and fall clerk position. There is also an app for symplicity available in the Apple and Android App Store. Go and check it out, you're a resume upload away from your summer legal position. https://law-capital-csm.symplicity.com/students/index.php?s=home
Also, coming up this week, is an opportunity to circulate and meet representatives from various organization that hire our Capital Law students and even host some student externs. On February 7, 2019 from 4pm to 6pm, the Employer and Externship Expo will be happening at Capital Law School! For more information, visit the Events tab on the Symplicity website to RSVP. Your future awaits!
