This Week's 1L Life Hack!

Great Day Trips in Columbus for Spring Break

So-- you start your first year strong and now are well into the second semester. You may find yourself “stuck” in Columbus for spring break. Here are some suggestions for short day trips to beat the boredom and enjoy the sights.

  • The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium - 4850 W Powell Rd, Powell, OH 43065, admission ranges between $14.99 and $17.99 depending on if you are a resident of Franklin County (a utility bill will get you the lower resident rate)

  • COSI - 333 W. Broad St. Columbus, OH 43215, admission prices range from $14.00- $19.00 and buying online ahead of time may save you some money. This is a hands on science and technology museum that offers lots of different events and shows.

  • Franklin Park Conservatory - 1777 E Broad St Columbus, Oh 43203, admission for students is $10 with a valid student ID.  The next big exhibition is the Blooms and Butterflies which begins right before spring break.

  • Highbanks Metro Park - 9466 Columbus Pike, Lewis Center, OH 43035, admission is free.  This park is home to Mounds I and II which are two Native American Burial grounds and archaeological sites.  The park offers a wide variety of hiking and running trails and some of the trails are pet friendly.

  • Scioto Audubon Metro Park - 400 W Whittier St, Columbus, OH 43215, admission is free. This park offers bird habitats, hiking, fishing, volleyball, dog parks & a climbing wall on 120 riverside acres.

  • Anthony Thomas Candy Company - 1777 Arling Gate Lane in Columbus, Ohio, admission is $2 and can be used towards a purchase.  For those of us that have a sweet tooth (it is near Easter) you can see the inner working of a chocolate factory.

  • Longaberger Homestead - 5563 Raiders Road in Frazeysburg, Ohio. The basket maker’s headquarters is inside the world’s largest basket as the entire building’s architecture is shaped like a giant basket including the handles. You can even make your own basket, for a fee of course.

ROLLER SK80S IX: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA SKATERS
Date: Saturday, March 5, 2016                                         Location: Skate Zone 71
Hours: 11:30 PM - 2:30 AM                                              Admission: $15
Address: 4900 Evanswood Dr.; Columbus, 43229
Details: We're going back in time for an 80s party like we would have thrown in the day. ROLLER SK80s is coming back to Central Ohio and there are no teachers. It's feel-good 80s jams. It's fall-down-fun roller skating. and it's all-you-can-(bring-to)-drink! It's another 80's theme - ROLLER SK80s IX: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA SKATERS - guess where we got our Totally-Tubular inspiration!? In its last Columbus installment, ROLLER SK80s attracted nearly FIVE HUNDRED (500!!) guests clad in everything from spandex to short shorts, perms to mullets, aviators to blue blockers, and neon blazers to faded jean jackets. Skaters flew and drove in from across the US. If there are so many partiers that we run out of skates, we’ll just have to borrow some Rollerblades from the 90s. Not a beer will go unfinished, and we’ll keep it going deep into the night with a hotel after-party just down the road. So dust off that 80s gear (you know you still have it), or better yet head to your favorite thrift store to find the perfect digs
