Spotlight On: The Finish Line

You did it! You survived Spring Break. You probably have not cracked open a book since the class before Spring Break started or you probably drained yourself trying to catch up on readings and work from the semester. Now to get ready for finals:

  • Learn From Your Past! If you have not went over your final exams from last year, it is time to do so now! The exams are probably buried somewhere in your professor's office but better late than never. Chances are you will find some commonalities in terms of what you did wrong last semester
  • Prepare For Your Future! Start taking practice exams. This is not the time to just look at the exams but actually write them full out and then once you're comfortable, time yourself to get into full study mode!
  • Don't Listen to Everyone Else! Students tend to boost how much they have done over spring break and this will leave you feeling like you haven't done enough. Don't listen to them. Don't give into their feelings, be mindful of yours.

Spotlight On: Spring Break!!

Spring break starts this weekend. I know spring break in undergrad was amazing, but, this is not spring break in undergrad! Here are some things you can do over break to make sure your exams go well:

  • Take some time to relax! Force yourself to have some fun. Do not get burned out this early in the semester. Final exams are coming and you want to be the best form of yourself when they do get here. At minimum, catch up on sleep or watch that TV show that you've been dying to watch but couldn't because of reading and outlining during the semester.
  • Make a REAL plan for studying. You are not a superhuman and you cannot do everything. Do not tell yourself that you will do all of your outlines, multiple choice questions, and practice essays during spring break. Spring break is only a week and when you make unrealistic goals for yourself, it is easy to get defeated and give up when you realize you cant get everything done that you had outlined. focus on your highest priority items first and create a study schedule of reasonable goals you want to accomplish during your times of study.
  • Make sure you are recharging your batteries, not draining them even more! It is great to go on a vacation for spring break or even just staying home to catch up on readings during spring break. It is not OK to study or have so much fun during spring break that you are exhausted hen you come back to school that Monday.
Get some rest and have a great spring break!
