Happy New Year!!!

Ha

Happy New Year!

Welcome 2018! Whether we were ready for it or not, it’s here, and we have to make the most of it!  For some of you, this is the year you’re headed to Law School.  For others, this marks a semester down, the halfway point, or the final semester!

As I was welcoming the New Year myself, I thought about all the resolutions I have made in the past.  After talking it over with some friends and colleagues, we all decided that resolutions could be rather silly.  We have these goals we set and the second we deviate from our goals, we fail.  Looking back on the last year and a half in Law School, I felt very similar, setting resolutions to make notecards everyday, and the one day I deviated, I thought to myself, I failed because of this instance.  So  I challenge you to make intentions for yourself as we go into the new year, here are some instances I believe they may help:

Grades
Here at Capital Law, grades came out on Tuesday afternoon.  For some, the joy was instant and for others, you may have been less than happy.  Take a look at your performance, whether bad or good, and set it as an intention for the day, week, month, semester, all leading to that goal of stronger academic performance.  Create small intentions, like being prepared for Monday’s class, outlining for each class weekly, doing a monthly course review…small intentions that can lead to the bigger goal, or as some say, resolution, of better performance.

Personal Well-Being
I remember almost every New Years setting a resolution not to drink as much or eat junk food.  However, when the January 1st came around, I was toasting with champagne and eating McDonalds.   In theory, I failed.  Instead of resolutions, set intentions for your personal well-being.  Maybe you dedicate 15 minutes a day to meditate, or once a week you intend to do something you love, like baking or the gym.  These small intentions can lead to big results.

Finally!
I know grades just came out, which as I said, can be either encouraging, or discouraging.  Either way, be easy on yourself, this is Law School, a completely different form of education than anything you’ve had before.  You are more then just these numbers, you are still a person, and still just as worthy as anyone else!

Once again, Happy New Year!!!
