1L Study Hack

Study Groups!

With finals coming up, you need to be critically thinking about what is the best study habit for you! You may have heard a few things about study groups in law school, some things were probably good and some things were probably terrifying!  Not to worry! I am here to help you decide whether or not a study group is best for you

  • Forming a study group is NOT the key to success in law school! Unless your exam is a group exam, it is likely that it will NEVER be, do not stress yourself because you don't have a study group yet.
  • Make your study groups efficient! If you REALLY think about your study group and it's more talking about gossip and what professor "so and so" is like, then you are not studying. You are merely hanging out with friends. As soon as you realize you're not learning or the group is just adding to your confusion, RUN! (not really but just quietly leave the group and get yourself together)
  • No 1L really knows what he or she is doing! Study group is mainly for bouncing ideas off of each other and hearing ideas and comments that you haven't thought of on your own. Study group is not to sit around and listen to one person talk about why he or she is right and jotting down their answers. 1) You will never understand that way and 2) that individual may not even be correct. You want to know who is always correct? Your professor!
Study groups can be the best or worst thing to every happen to you but remember: as much as people want to try and convince you there is only one way to be successful in law school, you have to decide what is best for you! If that is a study group, GREAT! If not, don't spend A SECOND worrying about it.

So now that you've read through the blog,
